DANIELLE COHEN HIGGINS, FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO REPRESENT DISTRICT 8

DANIELLE COHEN HIGGINS, FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO REPRESENT DISTRICT 8

Danielle Cohen Higgins knows what it means to work hard and fight for a better future. Born at Jackson Memorial Hospital after her family immigrated to Miami Dade from Jamaica, Danielle began her life in South Dade living in what is now Section 8 Housing. She lost her father at the age of 8 and was raised by a single mother who takes the Metro Mover and Metro Rail to work every day. She is a proud product of South Dade.

Despite these obstacles, Danielle fought on. She studied hard and attended all Miami Dade County public schools. She graduated Sunset Senior High School in the top 2% of her class. After receiving a scholarship to the University of Florida, Danielle would become the first person in her family to attend and graduate from college. In 2006, she earned her Juris Doctorate from Florida State University School of Law and was admitted to the practice of law at the age of 24. In 2009, she opened her own civil litigation law firm, Cohen Law, with the misison of providing excellent yet cost efficient legal services to smalll business and

individuals‐ a misison that continues to this day.

Danielle never forgot where she came from, which is why she is so dedicated to giving back to her community. Prior to becoming a candidate, she recently sat on the Board of Directors for the South Florida American Heart Association, served as a Young Ambassador to the Miami Children’s Health Foundation, and worked as a mentor and board member with Take Stock in Children. She was also elected to sit on the largest statewide board of trial attorneys, the Florida Justice Association.

Danielle is running for County Commissioner because she is ready to continue to serve her community. South Dade is a special place to live and raise a family but it faces many challenges. Cost of living is skyrocketing, economic opportunity is diminishing and traffic has become a dangerous nightmare. We need leadership that has the experience to fight to get South Dade its fair share and ensure our community’s voice is well represented on the County Commission. Danielle is ready to be that leader.

Finally and most importantly to Danielle, she is married to the love of her life. She has one charming and brilliant son and a new beautiful baby girl.
