Miami-Dade County launches new “Peace & Prosperity Empowerment through Education” Scholarship for college-bound youth

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department’s (CAHSD) Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) announces the “Peace & Prosperity Empowerment through Education” Scholarship to support college-bound young adults directly or indirectly affected by gun violence.

“This scholarship reflects our commitment to investing in the future of our youth and creating opportunities for those impacted by gun violence to pursue higher education,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “More than financial support, it’s a way to uplift those who have faced adversity. By investing in education, we invest in a safer and more prosperous Miami-Dade County.”

The application period for the scholarship opened on February 14, 2024, and closes on March 18, 2024. This opportunity is available to Miami-Dade County residents graduating from high school on or before August 1, 2024, and planning to attend an accredited college or university.

“Investing in education is investing in lasting change. The Peace & Prosperity Scholarship uplifts those who have faced adversity, providing them with the tools to shape a brighter future,” said Sonia Grice, Director of CAHSD. “Education is a powerful tool for transformation.”

The Peace & Prosperity Scholarship will award 75 scholarships, each valued at $2,500, directly to colleges and universities on behalf of the selected recipients. The aim is to empower these individuals in their pursuit of education, fostering resilience and breaking barriers.
