HOLIDAY SURVIVAL TIPS 101

HOLIDAY SURVIVAL TIPS 101

By Belinda Gordon-Battle

Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s –

Seems like we are on a roller coaster from October – January….where is the pause button? What can I do to manage the neverending emotional and mental grind of the neverending holiday?  Here are a few suggestions to help you maintain your mental wellness through this holiday season.

  1. #justBE open to nurturing yourself during the holidays. Mental health is the priority EVERYDAY, especially during the stressful days of holidays. Take a few moments each day for self-care.
  2. #justBE gentle and patient with yourself and others.  Allow your self-talk to include affirmations about self-love and acceptance.
  3. #justBE flexible with yourself and others. Traffic, unexpected guests, long lines at the store, and slow wi-fi connections can have an effect on your mood.  Relinquish the need to control these unexpected moments.
  4. #justBE prepared and open to a full range of emotions. The holidays can bring joy as well as pain to the surface. Adjustments to traditions, financial concerns, processing of grief and loss, and acceptance of new family members/friends can all occur within the holiday season. Anticipate triggers and prepare yourself.
  5. #justBE ready to Breathe…on purpose and with intention. Inhale and Exhale throughout your busy day. Relax and protect your peace.
  6. #justBe open to the process and #trytherapy. Make your appointments with a licensed professional mental health counselor NOW.  The objective therapeutic support of a professional therapist in a safe space can be very rewarding.

Give this gift to yourself.  Happy Holidays.
