Miami-Dade Celebrates August as Black Business Month
From the mesmerizing beaches to the iconic skyline, Miami-Dade County offers diversity and quality that no other County can match. It is home to a unique community of diverse people and enterprises. Because of this, County Commissioner Kionne McGhee (District 9) sponsored an ordinance declaring August Black Business Month in Miami-Dade County.
This bold declaration ignited Support BOB 305, a month-long initiative to promote and propel the Black-owned Businesses that generate more than $2.3 billion for our local economy and employ more than 12,000 people.
U.S. Census Bureau information touts Miami’s Black business community as the fifth largest in the nation. Black Business Month presents another opportunity to celebrate the Black-owned businesses that have served our community for more than 186 years.
Each year, Black-owned firms pay more than $320 million in payroll fees to people in our community. That revenue contributes to the tax base that funds our government and other community resources. These attributes help make Miami-Dade County a great place to raise your family, start your career, and support Black-owned businesses.
By the numbers:
‐ Miami’s Black consumer market is valued at $5.5 billion dollars, making it the 14th largest in the nation
– BOBs comprise 51,285 of the 468,185 business throughout Miami-Dade County (10.95%)
