COMMISSIONER MCGHEE TO HOST FREE MAMMOGRAM MOBILE UNIT ON MAY 20
MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee has partnered with Florida International University to provide free mammograms for women in Miami-Dade County. The mobile mammography unit will be available on Friday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Larcenia Bullard Plaza, 14508 Lincoln Blvd., Miami, FL 33176.
Attendees, who must be at least 40 years old, will also have the opportunity to learn about the importance of breast health with an education program that will be held from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m. in the second floor conference room. The breast health education program will feature an inspiring panel of breast cancer survivors.
“The fact remains that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women. By providing women in our community with the chance to receive free mammograms, we hope to make an impact and emphasize the importance of breast cancer screening because mammograms can potentially save lives,” said Commissioner McGhee.
To receive a free mammogram at the mobile unit, participants must have not had a mammogram within the last year, have no history of breast cancer, have no breast symptoms, and must not be pregnant or breastfeeding. Participants must bring a picture ID, their most recent mammogram on a CD (if applicable), and wait six weeks after receiving their second COVID-19 vaccine or booster dose to schedule their screening mammogram.

There are currently more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, including the women who are still undergoing treatment and those who have finished. Consecutive participation in mammography screening allows for the cancer to be found when it is small, reducing the risk of it growing and allowing for more treatment options.
