INAUGURAL FORMULA 1® CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX MAKES POSITIVE IMPACTS ON THE BLACK COMMUNITY

The inaugural Formula 1® Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix was hosted in South Florida for the first time since 1959. The event was held at the 3.36-mile, 19-turn circuit Miami International Autodrome, which is located next to Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Formula 1® Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, alongside community and civic partners, made it their number one priority to maintain diversity at this year’s event through charitable activities and community outreach events.

Lewis Hamilton was the only Black driver that participated in Formula One history. Hamilton kept himself very active throughout the weekend by speaking at the Miami Grand Prix Community Night.

During the event, Hamilton told the crowd: “This is the most diverse crowd I’ve ever received….It feels good not to be the only one of color on the stage. It definitely does have a significance,” Hamilton said. “The first five or 10, maybe five years or so I didn’t see many people of color in the grandstands. When I was on stage, very, very few people of color — not as diverse as I’d hoped and, as I said, yesterday I was standing on stage and I’m seeing the crowd. It couldn’t be any more diverse and that’s amazing for me.”

The weekend wouldn’t be right without a party! Formula hosted a free watch party for members of the local community. The event included a race viewing on the stadium big screens, F1 interactive experiences, free food and gifts, Special Guest Commentary, and so much more!d

Other notable experiences included the Formula 1® Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix City of Miami Gardens Interns. The mission of this paid internship program was to inspire a generation of college students to gain exposure and bolster careers in motorsports. Students will gain experience in numerous departments such as communications, corporate partnerships, event operations, fan experience, guest experience and marketing.

In addition, South Florida Motorsports (SFM), the organizers of the Formula 1® Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix and City of Miami Gardens hosted 14 local minority-owned restaurants, which all had a presence at the event.

Overall, last weekend was a staple moment for Formula 1® coming together to provide a wonderful experience to minorities.
