GREATER MIAMI CHAPTER OF THE LINKS, INCORPORATED ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF NATIONAL POSTER ART COMPETITION

Greater Miami (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated recently announced the winners of the National Poster Art Competition. The chapter partnered with local Miami-Dade County schools to participate in the
National Poster Art Competition. The competition is sponsored by The Links, Incorporated. Students used a variety of artistic mediums to creatively depict the theme. The winners of this year’s Poster Art Competition are:

● Category I – Andrea Mendez | North Gate Elementary
● Category II – Angeline Camueiras | North Gate Elementary
● Category III – Lynda Chicas | Aventura Waterways Preparatory Academy
● Category IV – Jaden Gilliam | Coral Reef High School

The 2021-2022 competition theme was "The Art of Social Justice to Transform Communities.  Students were asked to reflect and artistically express the work of social justice leaders, issues, and efforts — locally and nationally — that impact their community. There are four interrelated principles of social justice: equity, access, participation, and rights.

Theme conversation starters for the competition involved discussions around issues such as racial justice, equal rights, food insecurity, mass incarceration, violence, participation in government and elected offices, hate crimes, law enforcement accountability, abuse, the justice system, and similar causes and actions. The following factors were used to judge the artwork:

● Creativity: the artist’s imaginative approach to the theme
● Content: the degree to which the image conveys an idea that is clearly portrayed
and consistent with the theme of Transforming Communities by Making Health a
Habit.
● Artistic Ability: the degree to which the basic principles of art are reflected in the
image and reveal the distinct talent/skill of the artist

Each winner was awarded a prize for their category.
