2022 HBCU COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS

1. Kamala Harris

Vice President Harris will deliver the keynote address for the undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m. CDT in Hale Stadium. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin will address graduate students at an indoor ceremony on Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m. CDT in the Gentry Center Complex.

Since taking office last year as Vice President Of The United States, Kamala Harris has been using her time to make real change for not only the Black community but our nation as a whole.

She’ll soon be sharing her knowledge on politics, policy and personal endeavors as a woman of color when she takes the stage at Tennessee State University on May 7 to deliver the commencement speech for roughly 900 graduates.

2. Stacey Abrahams

Alumna Stacey Yvonne Abrams, C ’95, politician, lawyer and author will deliver the keynote address to graduates during 2022 commencement celebrations on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3 p.m., in the McCamish Pavilion on the campus of GA Tech.  Abrams will also receive a 2022 National Community Service Award.

Abrams served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017, serving as minority leader from 2011 to 2017. She graduated from Spelman magna cum laude with a degree in interdisciplinary studies and was named a Harry S. Truman Scholar.

3. Teraji P. Henson

Philanthropist and entrepreneur Taraji P. Henson is set to speak at Howard’s 154th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Henson, who was recently appointed by President Joe Biden to join the White House HBCU University will address the honorary doctorate of humane letter to the Class of 2022 and their families.

Henson is a 1995 graduate of Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts. She is an award-winning actress, producer and director, a best-selling author, and a noted philanthropist and advocate of mental health services in the African American community through her foundation, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation.

4. Sunny Hostin

Sunny Hostin is scheduled to speak at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University’s Spring 2022 ceremony at 8:30 am on May 14, 2022 for Spring graduates only. The event will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum no later than 7:30 a.m. No tickets will be required to attend.

Currently, Hostin serves as a co-host on The View, and she’s also ABC News’ Senior Legal Correspondent and Analyst.

Additionally, she is an attorney, journalist, author, and host/executive producer of a true-crime series called Truth About Murder with Sunny Hostin.
