BLACK MUSIC MONTH AND TED LUCAS CEO OF SLIP-N-SLIDE RECORDS
In honor of Black Music Month it was only right that The Culture sat down with Ted Lucas, CEO of Slip-N-Slide Records to discuss the tech industry, music, and so much more!
The Miami, Florida-based label took off after signing their very first artist, Trick Daddy and never looked back. The label has been home to many artists like Rick Ross, Plies, and Sebastion Mikael. The music executive shows no signs of slowing down.
Lucas first made his way into the industry as a concert promoter at Studio 183 around 18 years old. After the stress and struggles of the promotor lifestyle, he decided he wanted to be on the other end of things. The man behind the label says he loves grinding behind the scenes. He sold 30 million records and discovered many household names such as Trick Daddy, Jagged Edge, Trina, and many more.
Outside of the music, the entrepreneur has his own non-profit organization, The Ted Lucas Foundation. The organization has been empowering the youth in unprivileged communities through arts, education, and sustainable programming for more than 12 years.
As the music industry is shifting due to technology. Lucas is making moves to bridge the gap between the Black community and tech companies. “I’m going to take this first step initiative to make sure our community is involved in all the tech coming to South Florida. I think as black people we have to get up, wake up and pay attention,” Lucas tells The Culture. (link) He is fighting to get technology classes in elementary school to better educated young learners. He is also pushing to enable high school students to intern at some of the big tech companies moving to South Florida.
