MIAMI-DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNIZED THE 2021 5000 ROLE MODELS OF EXCELLENCE PROJECT WILSON SCHOLARS

At the School Board Meeting of February 10, 2021 the Miami-Dade County School Board recognized the 2021 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Wilson Scholars, as proposed by Vice Chair Dr. Steve Gallon III. Dr. Gallon was proud to recognize and congratulate the hard work and dedication of these young men.

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project was founded in 1993 by then Miami-Dade County School Board Member, Dr. Frederica S. Wilson, a steadfast supporter of improving public education, and now a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. A dropout prevention/mentoring program, the mission of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth and provide them with alternatives to dropping out of school and self-destructive behaviors. The program pairs male students, ages 9-19, with successful professional adult mentors, who provide them with advice, guidance, and educational assistance. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project serves more than 8,000 students in 110 chapters in Miami-Dade County. Chapters are also located throughout Florida – Pinellas County, Duval County, Broward County and in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Marcus Bright, 5000 Role Model mentor, was there to accept the proclamation.
