ATLANTA MAYOR DECLINES CABINET POSITION WITH BIDEN ADMINISTRATION

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms rejected a position in Joe Biden’s Cabinet. Rumors circulated around the exact position that she was offered. A reporter for the New Yorker said Bottoms was considered for the role of Ambassador to the Bahamas. The accusations have since been denied. Other sources said she was considered for secretary of Housing and Urban Development or to head Small Business Administration.

In the summer, it was unveiled that Bottoms could potentially be selected as Biden’s vice presidential running mate. Obviously, that didn’t happen, and Kamala Harris took the role. That is when it was reported that Atlanta Mayor would be considered for secretary of housing and Urban Development or to head Small Business Administration. Biden shut speculations about the secretary of Housing and Urban Development position down when he named U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge to be HUD Secretary.

Nevertheless, she continued to strongly support Biden by staying actively involved in his campaign election. She spoke at the Democratic National Convention on the legacy of civil rights leaders in America.

“The mayor’s focus remains on the people of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia.” Senior adviser Rashad Taylor said in a statement.

Besides, Bottoms has her hands tied reforming public housing in Atlanta. Her efforts include but are not limited to proposing a $1 billion initiative to improve public housing across the metropolitan area. She serves as the Chair of the Community Development and Housing Committee for the United States Conference of Mayor. Bottoms continues to pave the way for change by fighting against voter suppression and openly advocating for COVID-19 safety measures that the Biden administration pledged to enforce once he takes office.
