Angie Nixon speaks to terror of ICE

In response to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office ripping apart a mother and daughter in hospital, Florida U.S. Senate Democratic candidate State Representative Angie Nixon issued the following statement:

“The escalation of violence against Florida families has reached an unbearable level. It’s outrageous to see the degree of cruelty and inhumanity that this senseless war on immigrants has unleashed. It is morally and financially bankrupting us and must stop now!

“Ashley Moody spent six years as Attorney General making Trump’s war on immigrants a central priority, suing the federal government to demand more detention and supporting expanded state involvement in enforcement.

“As Senator, Moody voted for H.R. 1 to give nearly $75 billion for ICE in 2025, and then voted in 2026 for another nearly $70 billion in immigration enforcement funding, including $38 billion specifically for ICE. This made ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in the U.S. with annual and supplemental allocations that exceed the annual budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service and Bureau of Prisons combined.

“Meanwhile, when it was time to renew healthcare subsidies for 4.7 million Floridians benefiting from Obamacare, Moody voted against them. More than 440,000 Floridians fell off enrollment after the subsidies expired.

“How can there be money for a rogue agency that terrorizes our communities, yet not for basic healthcare needs for Floridians. Enough with corrupt politicians inflicting economic and emotional pain on Florida’s working families.

“Thankfully, communities are resisting the madness. From the FIU students protesting against ICE, who recently won their First Amendment lawsuit or the vigils against Alligator Alcatraz that helped shut it down. I stand in solidarity with these immigrant families and vow to fight side by side. When we organize we win!”
