City of Opa-locka Announces 99th Birthday Celebration: Four Days of Community, Culture, and Connection
The City of Opa-locka is proud to announce its 99th Birthday Celebration, a four-day series of events hosted by the Mayor and City Commission to honor nearly a century of history, resilience, and community spirit. From May 14-18, 2025, residents and visitors are invited to take part in activities that highlight Opa-lockaโs past, celebrate its present, and look ahead to its future.
โNinety-nine years ago, Opa-locka was founded with a bold vision,โ said Mayor John H. Taylor, Jr. โToday, that spirit of imagination, determination, and unity still defines us. This birthday celebration is about honoring the people who make Opa-locka strong and coming together to build excitement for our 100th year and beyond.โ
99th Birthday Celebration Event Lineup
Wednesday, May 14 โ Kickoff Celebration at Historic City Hall
Location: Historic City Hall
Time: 6:00 PM
Join the Mayor and City Commission as they officially kick off the 99th Birthday Celebration. This gathering at one of the cityโs most iconic landmarks will set the tone for a weekend of community pride and connection.
Friday, May 16 โ Hawaiian Luau Bingo Night
Location: Sherbondy Village, 215 Perviz Avenue
Time: 6:00 PM
Enjoy a festive evening of bingo, prizes, and Hawaiian-themed fun at this family-friendly event. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite island attire. Free admission.
