
An Evening of Radiance at The Black & White Ball®
The Miami (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. held its signature Black & White Gala on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Doubletree by Hilton, Miami airport. The epic gala was an evening of fanfare and glitter.
President Oliver S. Spicer and Mr. Carnell White, Master of Ceremonies presented the prestigious Community service awards. Honorees included Emmy award winning journalist (television new casters) Calvin Hughes and Jawan Strader. Mr. Gale Nelson, President/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami (Key West) received the Exemplary Service & Trailblazer awards for his service, dedication, and helping youth of all ages reach their career goals.
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson received the Pioneer award for dedication and helping to improve Miami Dade County through development with organizations in our communities. The Honorable Mayor, Alix Desulme of City of North Miami recognized Miami (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi with a Proclamation for the work they do with Miami Dade Public Schools, Big Brother Big Sisters Miami, Special Olympics, and the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program.
Glenn Q. George, Sr. Chair of the breathe taking gala presented Miami natives Dewey Dwight, Ill & Samuel L. Johnson Il with Miami achievement awards. Financial contributions from the Black & White Ball provides scholarships to the Kappa League.
The Kappa League is a program for the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 6-12th The program is designed for male students in the Miami Dade Community to empower leadership skills, academic enhancement, sports, and career readiness. Miami (FL) Alumni has dedicated over 77 years of service to Miami-Dade Community. The national partners include the United Negro College Fund, Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children’s Research
