Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works celebrates Black History Month with a Cultural Bus Tour series

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) are thrilled to bring back educational bus tours for Black History Month. The tours are aimed at exploring and celebrating the significant contributions of Black communities in our vibrant county. The tours are scheduled for Saturday, February 10 and Saturday, February 24.

“Miami-Dade’s strength lies in its diversity, and our Black History Month tours recognize and highlight the profound impact that African American culture has had in shaping our community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These tours offer an immersive experience into the stories and achievements that are integral to understanding our county’s diverse legacy.”

The free two-and-a-half-hour tours will offer narrated rides with insights into the historical significance of neighborhoods such as Coconut Grove, Overtown, Liberty City, and Little Haiti. While some sites will be admired from the comfort of the bus, participants will have the opportunity to disembark and explore select areas more intimately, thereby gaining a deeper appreciation of the local heritage.

“Through these cultural bus tours, we aim to bridge the gaps in our collective understanding of Miami-Dade’s history,” added Eulois Cleckley, Director and CEO of DTPW. “Public transportation is more than just a means of travel. It’s a journey through the living history of our community. We’re honored to facilitate this exploration and dialogue during Black History Month.”

Tours will depart promptly at 10 a.m. from the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 N.W. First Street.  Spaces are anticipated to fill quickly on a first come, first served basis. Riders are encouraged to secure spots early. To reserve a seat, visit our website.
