DR. STEVE GALLON III’S 4th ANNUAL DISTRICT 1 BLACK HISTORY SHOWCASE A HUGE SUCCESS

Brilliance, creativity, and talent were on full display on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 as District 1 School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III held his 8th Annual District 1 Black History Month Showcase at the packed auditorium of Miami Norland Senior High School. The evening celebrated 50 years of Hip-Hop through the vibrant talents of District 1 students.
Talented students from various schools including Carol City Middle, Aventura Waterways K-8, Madie Ives K-8 Center, North Dade Center for Modern Languages, Golden Glades Elementary, Scott Lake Elementary, Rainbow Park Elementary, Norland Middle School, North Miami Senior High, Miami Carol City Senior High, and the host school, Miami Norland Senior High, showcased their skills in visual arts, dance, music, spoken word, and drama, paying homage to the evolution of Hip-Hop over the past five decades.
Special visuals of Dougie Fresh beatboxing like the early years of Hip-Hop, added a nostalgic touch to the showcase, reminding the audience of the genre’s humble beginnings and innovative spirit.
The showcase received a long and resounding standing ovation at the end and continuous praise by everyone as they exited the auditorium.
Among the distinguished guests were Vice Mayor Katrina Wilson-Davis whose steadfast partnership contributed to the success of the event.
Dr. Steve Gallon III expressed his gratitude, stating, “Tonight, our community witnessed the exceptional talent of our students, while also reflecting on the influential journey of Hip-Hop over the past 50 years. This showcase not only educates and empowers but also elevates the aspirations of our students.”
