The NAACP South Dade Branch’s Statement on the Jacksonville Tragedy

The South Dade Branch of the NAACP extends prayers and positive energy to the community of Jacksonville, Florida. In the wake of the tragedy which unfolded at the Dollar Store, on August 28th, the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, we strongly condemn the racist act which claimed the lives of 3 black residents by what appears to be a lone white extremist. We also condemn the hypocrisy of Governor and Presidential Candidate Ron DeSantis’ statement, as he has continued to attack African Americans and their history in the state of Florida, while ignoring the rise in white supremacist hate groups in Florida. We are at a time in which America needs to unite, but the governor continues his assault African American history, voting rights, and safety. The NAACP South Dade Branch calls on Governor DeSantis to condemn ALL extremist groups in Florida and to direct ALL law enforcement to protect all Floridians, more specifically Black Floridians.
