Commissioner McGhee to host a street naming ceremony honoring community leader Dr. Walter T. Richardson
Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee is hosting a street naming ceremony to honor Miami-Dade County community leader Dr. Walter Thomas Richardson on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, 10701 SW 184th St., Miami, FL 33157.
Dr. Richardson was born in Miami-Dade County on July 2, 1948, and attended North Dade Junior Senior High School. He earned a Bachelors and Master of Arts degree in Religion from St. Thomas University. Dr. Richardson later attended Trinity Theological Seminary earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Pastoral Counseling. In 1989, Dr. Richardson returned to St. Thomas University where he served as an adjunct professor of religion. He served for approximately 26 years as the Senior Pastor at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Perrine, Miami-Dade County. He retired from his Senior Pastor role in 2010 and now serves as pastor emeritus. Dr. Richardson has also served as the senior chaplain for the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for over 30 years. On June 29, 2022, the Public Health Trust (PHT) Board of Trustees, Jackson Health System’s governing body, voted Dr. Richardson in as its chairman.
