THOUSANDS ATTENDED HBCU WEEK AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

Some of the best HBCU bands in the land lined up for HBCU week in Magic Kingdom. This year marks the first time that Walt Disney World Resort has hosted HBCU week. The original event began in 2017 in Delaware. This year, Disney welcomed the event, which includes a college fair, as part of its Disney on the Yard initiative.

The three-day weekend event included the HBCU Week College Fair featuring 53 HBCUs, where on-the-spot college acceptances and millions of scholarships were awarded; HBCU bands marching down Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom Park; a live ESPN broadcast of First Take; and a friendly but fierce HBCU Week Battle of the Bands event.

On Saturday, Alcorn State, Delaware State, North Carolina A&T and Winston-Salem State marching bands played in multiple parades at Magic Kingdom Park. They’re unique sound traveled down Main Street, U.S.A.

As the event continued on into Sunday, the battle of the bands remained fierce. The event included an exciting pre-show performance from Drum Major Mickey Mouse. Each band showcased HBCU culture in the best way with their showstopping dance teams, marching mechanics, and notable hit songs for the culture.

The event featured a host of activities designed to promote HBCU enrollment, including a huge college fair offering on-the-spot acceptance and millions in scholarships.

Although it’s not the first time HBCU bands made their way to Disney World, this event is the first of its’ kind to be hosted there putting HBCUs in the spotlight they deserve. The event was hosted in collaboration with the HBCU Foundation, Walt Disney World and Disney on the Yard, an initiative focused on deepening Disney’s engagement with HBCUs.
