Marcus Garvey and Jamaica Independence Celebration
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence, join The Underline for an unveiling of a tree marker and a celebration concert honoring the Rt. Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey. The celebration concert takes place from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at The Underline Brickell Backyard Sound Stage Plaza located at SW 8th Street and SW 1st Avenue. This highly-anticipated public ceremony will also include invitations to donate back-to-school supplies and materials for underserved students beginning in the Fall 2022 school year.
The lineup of legendary Ska and Reggae artists include:
Eric “Monty” Morris who is best known for songs like “Wings of A Dove”, “Sammy Dead” and “Oil in my Lamp”
Keyboardist Pablove Black, a mainstay of the Jimmy Cliff and Studio One Session bands of the 1970s
Ras “Shaggie” Williams
Jah Mark and The Soulshakers
There will also be a presentation of Marcus Mosiah Garvey Lifetime Achievement Awards give to surprise honorees.
The celebration will be curated, directed and produced by Ras Gilly Dread Presents LLC. Friends of The Underline is grateful to longtime supporter Mark Hobson for underwriting both the tree marker and the free community concert.
