MIAMI GARDENS CELEBRATED JUNETEENTH WITH FAMILY FUN ACTIVITIES, FIREWORKS, ACTIVATIONS, AND MORE

City of Miami Gardens hosted the second annual Juneteenth Park-In and Party celebration Sunday. The festival welcomed hundreds at Calder Casino on 21001 Northwest 27th Avenue.

Miami Gardens was recognized as hosting one of the top Juneteenth Celebrations in the country last year by Essence Magazine.

The theme for the 2022 celebration is “We Are One.” There were a number of artists that performed, from local acts to hip-hop headliner, Doug E. Fresh. Vice Mayor Reggie Leon, Councilwoman Katrina Wilson and Councilman Robert Stephens, III were also in attendance for the celebration.

“We want everybody to understand the legacy of Black America is still alive,” Mayor of Miami Gardens, Rodney Harris said. “We want to be able to tell our story and never forget what happened so we can tell our children stories of Juneteenth.”

This year’s festivities went beyond just a drive-through celebration thanks to the Hip Rock Star team. Hip Rock Star produced the first Walk Through History Juneteenth Activation saluting the Black Neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County and Cigars in the Garden Lounge.

“We created a walk-through history to celebrate Richmond Heights, Opa Locka, Liberty City, Overtown as well as Miami Gardens. What we did is delineated the history of black Miami residents, where they came from before they ended up here in Miami, and then the rich heritage of each of those communities,” said Jessica Garrett Modkins.
