MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LIBRARIES TO DISTRIBUTE AT-HOME RAPID TESTING KITS AS OMICRON SPREADS
The Omicron variant lead to a higher demand for COVID-19 tests in South Florida. To fulfill the high demand, Miami-Dade County has considered opening up two new testing areas and extending hours at the Zoo Miami testing site. According to a press release, the Zoo Miami Testing center will be active seven days a week and twenty-four hours a day.
Last week, the US experienced a record-breaking high with nearly 500,000 cases in just one day. In Chicago, cases hit about 10,000 in a single day. New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, Seattle, Houston, Miami, and New Orleans are among other cities that have faced a rapid surge in cases.
Miami-Dade County authorities leaped into action and are now distributing free of cost, take-home rapid test kits to meet the ever-growing demand for testing.
Last week, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava reported that Miami-Dade County is trying its best to suppress the virus. Officials are doing everything they can to make testing as accessible as possible throughout communities.
“As we tackle the spread of Omicron and the recent surge in demand for COVID testing, Miami-Dade County is doing everything we can to make testing as accessible as possible across our community – including by distributing free take-home rapid test kits to residents,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
In addition, the mayor also added that officials are working day and night to ensure that residents of Miami-Dade County have feasible access to testing to protect themselves and their loved ones during the holiday season. On top of this, the County has given out about 152 000 at-home rapid test kits to make testing more efficient.
Kits are available at twenty-seven library locations. Contact the participating library location for more testing information or email customercare@mdpls.org for assistance.
