LUDACRIS’ NEW ANIMATED SERIES EMPOWERS YOUNG BLACK GIRLS

Grammy-Award-winning rapper Ludacris empowers many young girls’ through his new animated Netflix series Karma’s World. The hit show follows Karma Grant, who has big dreams of breaking into the music industry.

The show was inspired by the daughter of Ludacris, Karma. “my daughter was 6. She’s now 20 years old, and she used to come into my studio and interrupt me and say, daddy, I want to rap too, and I would always kick her out.” Ludacris told WSVN.

It’s not just Karma’s rhymes that inspire, but the show also touches on many things young Black girls have to go through, such as learning to embrace our natural hair, body shaming, and navigating friendships.

Ludacris told his daughter that if she wanted to take the music business seriously, she had to talk about real life and the things she goes through. “We started thinking about the stuff that goes on in her life, education, morals, fun, and it just birthed this whole idea.” He continued, “body shaming, you know, talking about textures of hair and how to deal with other people who don’t realize or understand your texture of hair, family, friendships, you name it. We have so many great storylines.”

Karma’s character is a powerful, empowering role model who uses her words and music to change her community. I’d be surprised if the show didn’t drive more conversations in both Black and White households and encourage young girls to follow their dreams while finding their purpose.

The series features 11-minute episodes with original music created by Bridges in partnership with James Bennett Jr. and produced by Gerald Keys. The music touches on self-esteem, discrimination, creativity, expressing emotions, friendship, and more.
