2021 TOKYO OLYMPICS HBCU RESULTS

There is such a great pool of HBCU talent in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Luckily, we compiled results from students representing their country and the HBCU community. The results for HBCU athletes at the Tokyo Olympics started off pretty rocky. Still, it ended with a great win and a few gold medals.

LIVINGSTONE’S QUANERA HAYES

Livingstone College’s Quanera Hayes ran 51.07 seconds to advance in the women’s 400 meters heats Tuesday. Hayes finished behind Great Britain’s Jodie Williams. She won the national title at the U. S. Olympic trials in the season’s best time of 49.78.

COPPIN STATE’S JOSEPH PAUL AMOAH

Coppin State runner Joseph Paul Amoah, advanced out of the men’s 200 meters first round with his season’s best time of 20.35 seconds. Amoah was in the seventh and final heat, finishing third behind U. S. champion Noah Lyles.

TREVOR STEWART MAKES N. C. A&T HISTORY

North Carolina A&T senior Trevor Stewart earned a bronze medal in the first-ever mixed 4×400-meter relay. The event involves two men and two women on each team. Stewart also ran the leadoff leg in 44.9 seconds, which was outstanding for him. However, the team was nipped at the tape to finish third in 3:10.22. The gold medal went to the quartet from Poland.

SAINT AUGUSTINE’S TIA-ADANA BELLE

Saint Augustine’s Tia-Adana Belle advanced out of the first round of the women’s 400 meters hurdles with a second-place finish in her heat in a time of 55.69 seconds. However, Belle ran significantly slower in the semifinals finishing eighth. Unfortunately, Belle seemed to struggle over the eighth hurdle and did not advance.

Notably, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University national champions Trevor Stewart and Randolph Ross Jr. are Olympic gold medalists in the men’s 4×400-meter relay of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
