TWITTER REACTS TO DEREK CHAUVIN’S 22 1/2 YEAR SENTENCE

On Friday, June 25, former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin will serve time for second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. He will spend the next 22-and-a-half years in prison for the murder of George Floyd. After sentencing, Chauvin was taken away in handcuffs.

Chauvin held his knee on or near Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, as the 46-year-old was prone on the ground while detaining him. He was detained for allegedly using a counterfeit bill for purchase, as three other Minneapolis cops stood by.

George’s brother, Philonese Floyd, said the family needs closure, and a maximum sentence will help. “My family and I have been given a life sentence,” Floyd said. “We’ll never be able to get George back.”
The three other officers involved in Floyd’s arrest have their respective trials rescheduled for March 2022. Former officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Keung, and Thomas Lane will face charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death.

One Twitter user shared an image showing the huge racial disparities in the American Justice system.

“Derek Chauvin is a monster. He’s never shown or expressed any remorse. This is a pattern of behavior for him, not a single incident. He’s like any violent individual who works their way up to murder,” a user wrote.

At the end of the day, Ava Duvernay said it best. Derek Chauvin is a murderer.
