SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY FACES MIXED REVIEWS

After almost three decades, Warner Bros. released a controversial sequel to the 1996 Space Jam. Space Jam: A New Legacy highlights basketball legend LeBron James, who steps into Michel Jordan’s role in 1996. The much-anticipated classic spinoff is receiving mixed feedback from viewers.

The movie follows a similar premise to its predecessor. The cast includes Zendaya as the voice of Lola Bunny and Don Cheadle as villain Al-G Rhythm, and more! Opinions on the movie cannot be more divided. Critics were not impressed whatsoever while casual audiences kicked back and enjoyed the fresh take on a classic throwback.

Although,, one person who has made it very clear that they aren’t pleased with the sequel is former director Joe Pytka. He bluntly stated, “The truth is that Lebron ain’t Micheal.” He added that the new film lacks personal connection. The premise of the original Space Jam reflected on Michael retiring basketball to play baseball, which happened in real life. He also had some pretty negative things to say about the soundtrack, calling it “insignificant.”

However, according to Yardbarker, Space Jam: A New Legacy premiered at $31.05M in first place and declined to No. 4 last week with an estimated $9.56M. This marked a significant 69% drop from its debut. The sequel’s total stands at $51.37M to date.

It was a movie made for kids at the end of the day, but adults took over to see if it was better or worse than the 1996 prequel. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” may not be the best movie ever, but it is the perfect movie made for families and children. It shouldn’t turn into a LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan match for who will go down as the greatest basketball legend. It’s a movie that should be enjoyed because everyone is going to have their own opinion anyway.
