SLIP N SLIDE RECORDS CEO, TED LUCAS TEAMS UP WITH CRYPTO FOR FIRST-EVER NFT

Slip N Slide Records CEO, Ted Lucas, teamed up with Crypto.com to release their first-ever NFT – the iconic & “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” animation. The “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” NFT brings a classic recording from the Slip N Slide Records catalog. The team paired the recording with an animation piece that taps into the early 2000’s meme culture.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are digital content represented by tokens. They are driving a new wave of crypto adoption. NFTs didn’t come about yesterday; they made headlines in 2017 when Dapper Labs’ game CryptoKitties accounted for 95% of Ethereum network usage at its peak. It seems pretty crazy for someone to pay $170,000 for a digital cat, but that's nothing compared to what creatives see on the app today.

Additionally, the digital space could be a game-changer for the music industry. Last month, music NFT sales topped $25 million. Artists are developing unique ways to showcase their work and interact with their fans on Ethereum blockchain platforms like Nifty Gateway, SuperRare, Foundation, and Zora.

The NFT was inspired by the most widely circulated version of the OG “Dancing Banana” meme on YouTube. Animator Alexander Zakari brings a gritty, Lo-Fi, User-Generated aesthetic that takes us back to the simpler days of internet meme culture. There are also two additional Miami remix versions of the NFT, with visuals by legendary Miami graffiti artist Atomik. The remixes highlight the “305” native culture, repping the Magic City on the BlockChain, welcoming visitors and new transplant neighbors to the party.

“The Peanut Butter Jelly Time is one of the most iconic memes of all time”; said Crypto.com Executive Vice President and Global Head of NFT Joe Conyers III. “We’re honored to partner with Slip N Slide Records to offer this symbol of internet culture during the aughts on our platform, which has been so heavily referenced time and time again since — and to be able to bring it forward for a new generation with a legendary artist like Atomik is an incredible bonus. ”

Lucas first made his way into the industry as a concert promoter at Studio 183 around 18 years old. After the stress and struggles of the promotor lifestyle, he decided he wanted to be on the other end of things. He then went on to establish Slip N Slide Records, where he sold 30 million records and discovered many household names such as Trick Daddy, Jagged Edge, Trina, and many more.
