TARAJI P. HENSON SHINES LIGHT ON MENTAL HEALTH
Golden Globe award winning-actress Taraji P. Henson and co-host and entrepreneur Tracie Jade Jenkins are shining a light on mental health in the new Facebook Watch show Peace of Mind with Taraji. Fresh episodes air every Monday and Wednesday, showcasing how to provide support, bring awareness, and help eliminate the stigmas of mental health issues.
Taraji P. Henson has long been an advocate for mental health, especially for Black women.
“I’ve long been a mental health advocate for the Black community and created the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in 2018 that has provided resources to thousands of people who are struggling,” Henson said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to bringing this new talk series to Facebook Watch, where I can continue to create conversation around an issue that is near and dear to my heart.”
The Empire star has the support of many celebrities. Gabrielle Union, Tamar Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Jay Pharaoh, and more make an appearance to intimately discuss the ups and downs of their mental health journey.
During the premiere episode titled “PTSD with Gabrielle Union: Not Just for Combat Vets,” The award-winning actress shares her story on how she was raped at gunpoint, which sparked her PTSD condition. She also goes into detail on why 2020 has been so triggering.
“I thought quarantining was right up my alley. I love silence. I love hunkering down at home, but you add in our president (President Donald Trump). He inspired so much racism and white supremacy and hatred and evil, that we have been in the midst of an onslaught, a daily barrage, of the brutalization of Black and brown bodies that we’re just taking in every day, all day.”
In addition to the ‘Empire’ Star’s Facebook Watch Series, Henson has kept very active in the community. She launched a nonprofit in 2018, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, which is named after her father and aims to provide mental health support to underserved African American communities
