POWERHOUSES COME TOGETHER TO PROVIDE RELIEF IN OVERTOWN

More than $250,000 in cash and Publix grocery gift cards were distributed to Historic Overtown residents on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. The cash and gift cards will allow vulnerable families, children, seniors, and other residents disproportionately affected by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic to purchase much-needed essentials.

Families waited in line for hours at the House of Wings to receive the cash and gift cards. The unprecedented gesture is all thanks to Entertainment Mogul Sean Combs; Sean Combs Foundation; District 3 Miami-Dade County Commissioner Keon Hardemon; Mussaddiq Muhammad; Michael Gardner; Headliner Marketing Group; and T.E.E.S.

Amid a national pandemic, thousands of residents were blessed by this unselfish combined effort – blessed to be a blessing. “I am grateful and thankful to be in a place to give to others in a time of need,” said Mussaddiq Muhammad.

“Puffy called and wanted us to do something in Overtown. This is a demonstration of Black Excellence. We have to remove fear and doubt when it comes to Black people and just realize we all just want to live. When we all recognize our blessings and start sharing with others, then maybe we can really solve our problems.”

Throughout this incredibly difficult time, this pandemic has left many hopeless. However, this act of kindness closed 2020 out with hope for greater things to come. Those that donated not only provided money and gift cards, but they also provided hope. This is truly a demonstration of willingness to support community-based initiatives and is a testament to their commitment to our local communities.
