TIKTOK LAUNCHES CYBERSECURITY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR BIPOC CONTENT CREATORS
According to the US Labor Department, only 3% of information security analysts are in the industry. To bridge this major gap, TikTok has come up with an initiative of introducing a Cybersecurity Certification Program and the reason is to provide representation to the BIPOC content creators.
TikTok’s new campaign #SeeYourselfinCyber launched last week to educate, diversify the security industry, and provide representation to people from all kinds of social, economical and racial backgrounds.
“With over 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs unfilled across the fast-growing cybersecurity sector, according to Cybersecurity Ventures, TikTok is championing a new #SeeYourselfinCyber initiative from the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA),” said TikTok’s public relations team in a statement. “Whether connecting Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students to the cybersecurity job of their dreams or creating a new scholarship program through Cyversity, we’re committed to nurturing next-generation talent and helping under-represented minorities start or advance their career.”
It is also reported that the initiative will include new opportunities for HBCU students to be connected to cybersecurity jobs and a new scholarship program through Cyversity.
“TikTok is helping us tackle the need for more cybersecurity professionals, specifically in the disproportionate underrepresentation of women and minority populations,” said Beverly Benson, Executive Director at Cyversity in a statement. “Individuals from underserved communities will be able to receive training for in-demand security roles through this innovative program.”
While providing this opportunity for BIPOC Creators, TikTok has also partnered with The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) to ensure the safety of its content creators and developed Cybersecurity Toolkit for Individuals.
“People get confused about what to do to protect themselves online, but they don’t need to,” said Phil Reitinger, President and CEO of the Global Cyber Alliance. “It’s easy for content creators and families everywhere to make significant strides to protect themselves and their privacy by using the Cybersecurity Toolkit for Individuals from GCA and TikTok.”
