BULLETPROOF BACKPACK SALES INCREASE AFTER TEXAS MASS SCHOOL SHOOTING
It was reported that Ramos killed his grandmother and then drove off in her truck to Robb Elementary School, where he shot fire in the school. The Police department couldn’t identify the motive behind the attack.
Shootings in schools have become an intractable problem, leaving hundreds of children deprived of their precious lives. The influx in shootings resulted in increased kids’ bulletproof backpack sales. Since the shooting incident, four renowned backpack companies have also reported increased demand for shielded bags from hundreds of parents.
Yasir Sheikh, the President of Guard Dog Security – a company that solely focuses on producing several self-defense products like pepper sprays, guarded bags, and stun guns– also confirmed the spike in the sales.
“There was an increase from our national retailers who carry our bags. Guard Dog sells backpacks to national retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, and Lowe’s.” Sheikh stated.
As illustrated on the website, a person standing in the line of fire can hold the backpack to their head or chest to dodge the bullets. The bags are available in multiple colors and weigh less than four pounds, according to the product descriptions.
Sheikh claimed that a considerable amount of the bulletproof backpack sales were given as a donation to Make Our Schools Safe, a non-profit organization launched by the parents of one of the victims of the Parkland shooting incident, which took place in Florida in 2018.
According to the former Secret Service agent and founder and CEO of Leatherback Gear, Mike De Geus, his company saw an 800% increase in sales volume. De Geus shared that the backpacks that turn into bulletproof vests have become the most in-demand product.
As expected, parents are going above and beyond to keep their children safe. Parents in states like New Jersey, Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida have shown the most interest in bulletproof backpacks.
