2022 MIAMI FILM FESTIVAL KICKED OFF FEATURING BLACK CREATORS

The Miami Film Festival is back like it never left. Organizers kicked off this 2022 fest admitting that it’s been a tough couple of years due to COVID. Still, you would never know based on the fantastic and energetic turnout!

The Miami Film Festival kicked off Friday and will continue up until the 13th. This year’s event features films by Rachelle Salnave and other Black creatives.

According to Hy-Lo News, Salnave’s film, “Madame Pipi,” will be featured at this year’s Miami Film Festival. She will also be a guest programmer handpicking five narrative films centered on the global Black experience.

Salnave is an award-winning filmmaker with 20 years of experience. She has created a series of films on gentrification in Harlem and the Haitian experience.

In addition, there are more than 120 films, documentaries, and short films of all genres, from more than 35 countries.

“Last year we did the hybrid event, with reduced capacity and no parties and limited guests. But this year, we’re back to a normal festival,” says executive director and co-director of programming, Jaie Laplante. “COVID has helped us figure out what we value the most with the festival, and how we reach our ultimate mission, which is to connect art and artists with the audience.”

The festival also includes several homegrown films from South Florida.

Miami Dade College’s 39th Miami Film Festival runs from March 4 to March 13 with in-theater and virtual presentations. Visit miamifilmfestival.com for more information.
