BASKETBALL COACH SYDNEY CARTER DEFENDED HER CHOICE TO WEAR PINK LEATHER PANTS AFTER FACING CRITICISM
The Texas A&M Player Development Coach, Sydney Carter, faced criticism for her outfit choice.
Following the 22nd game of the season, Carter shared pictures of her in the midst of coaching whilst wearing pink pants with a white shirt and heels.
Some people online began to question whether the outfit was “appropriate,” leading to thousands of Twitter users leaping to Carter’s defense.

Women around the nation came together to defend Sydney Carter and call out anybody who had anything negative to say about her.
The head women’s basketball coach at University of Mississippi, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, tweeted:
“Sis @Sydney_Rene you looked FAB in your outfit! Ppl that can’t do it, hate it! But many can and did! Keep styling! Love to see it!”
Other women also backed Sydney Carter and wrote:
Tell the haters we call it RANGE. @Sydney_Rene pic.twitter.com/3E5v99xsWX

This is another example of how Black women get ridiculed, especially if they serve in powerful positions. Let’s face it, there was nothing wrong with what Sydney Carter was wearing. Carter couldn’t have been more covered in her turtle neck and pink pants, yet she was over-sexualized and body shamed.
Famous sports journalist Taylor Rooks took the time to back Sydney Carter and tweeted, “She has on a turtleneck and pants. Literally impossible to be more covered. It doesn’t matter what black women wear because the issue is with our bodies not our clothes. Stop over-sexualizing (and in turn body shaming) women and the space we literally and figuratively occupy.”
Also I can’t stress enough how much it doesn’t matter what this man says lmao. Caring about what random people on the internet think is possibly the most pointless thing of all time

Carter has since spoken out on the situation, and we must admit she handled it with such grace.
In short, she has no plans to alter her appearance to appease others. “As a Black woman in coaching, I take pride in showing that people who look like me don’t have to diminish our light to appeal to others, whose opinions never mattered anyway,” she wrote.
She also acknowledged that her status as a Black woman in coaching could affect how the general public perceives her. The former WNBA player shared, “I’ve never been one to make it about race or anything else. I just know at the end of the day, I’m a Black woman and I can’t hide that.”
