NICK CANNON PAYS OFF HBCU STUDENTS’ DEBT UPON GRADUATION
Nick Cannon paid off the school debt of seven HBCU students. The announcement took place on his nationally syndicated talk show on Fox, “Nick Cannon.”
Students reflected on the hardships they had to overcome as they strive to obtain their college degrees.
North Carolina A&T State University’s very own Christian Kornegay shared his experience on overcoming his learning disability. Similar to Nick Cannon, Kornegay is an aspiring host and entertainer. Kornegay holds the title of the top HBCU host in the country. He has also built his notable brand CDK on the mic, expanding his reach to partnering notable brands such as HipHop DX and interviewing celebrities such as rapper Toosii, Rico Nasty, Rubi Rose, amongst others.
“I cannot thank you enough!” Kornegay said. “You’re an inspiration to many especially myself in media realm! This has been a life changing experience granting me the opportunity to continue my education and push forward to graduate college! THANK YOU”
Mackenzie Estrep says she works three jobs to get by while attending Saint Augustine’s University. Sharandica Midcalf was homeless for some time and told by a school official that her GPA was too low to get into college. Midcalf now attends Winston-Salem State University.
Nick Cannon is also an HBCU graduate. He obtained his degree from Howard University. He later went on to land his groundbreaking role in Drumline as an HBCU drum major.
Cannon continues to give opportunities to HBCU alumni by featuring them on his hit show, Wild-N-Out. They include North Carolina A&T’s Darren Brand as well as Winston-Salem State’s Chico Bean and B-Daht.
“I was so moved by y’all’s stories and the obstacles that you’ve overcome that I gotta help out,” Cannon told the students. “Once you earn your college degree, we’re wiping out your personal student debt. Every single penny.”
Cannon partnered with the Thurgood Marshall Fund and the United Negro College Fund to assist the seven students with their debt proceeding graduation.
