EMMYS GET BLASTED AFTER NO PEOPLE OF COLOR WIN

Despite the record-breaking number of Black nominees, not a single actor of color won a performance award.

Following the Emmy Award Show last Sunday, celebrities such as actor, rapper, and entrepreneur 50 Cent shined a light on the fact that no people of color won acting awards despite record nominations.

“Listen the Emmy’s still has a separate bathroom for colored folks,” wrote 50 Cent in the since-deleted post shared on both Twitter and Instagram. “I’m gonna put the NAACP awards on the air at the same time and f*ck up there numbers 🤔. No they really should be afraid of me I’m different.”

This is not the first time 50 Cent has blasted the Emmys. “The EMMY’S can kiss my Black ass in slow motion,” he said in 2019.

According to People, White actors took home all 12 lead and supporting actor and actress categories across comedy, drama, and limited series. Thus, notable nominees such as Pose star Mj Rodriguez, the late Michael K. Williams, and breakout Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang were shut out of their respective categories.

While no people of color were recognized at the primetime ceremony, many awards were handed out to POC at the less publicized event, the Creative Arts Emmys. This is an issue, not a validation. Why are Black creatives given a pat on the back behind the scenes and not seeing air time?

In addition to the outrage, #EmmysSoWhite trended on Twitter, where many people voiced their concerns.
