MELANIN MAGIC TAKES OVER THE 2021 ACADEMY AWARDS
The 2021 Academy Awards came as a refreshing return to the norm after stars strutted in their best formal wear on the red carpet. The Academy Award officials pulled off a successful in-person event after an exhausting virtual award season. Thanks to all the designers, the red carpet glittered and glamoured with amazing handcrafted pieces.
It’s totally safe to say that Zendaya invented Yellow. The Euphoria actress broke the internet yet again with her fashion looks. She showed up in her show stopping strapless Valentino gown with a stomach cutout. The dress featured 183 carats of yellow diamond Bulgari jewels and she topped the look off with peep-toe Jimmy Choo platforms. Let’s be honest, she could’ve worn sweats and a t-shirt and lit up the red carpet.
Angela Bassett strutted her stuff in a custom Alberta Ferretti gown that was styled by Jennifer Austin. Angela has previously been nominated for one Oscar for her role as Tina Turner in 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do With It. This year, she is slated as a presenter for the big night.
R&B singer HER sung her way to the red carpet in a lovely purple Peter Dundas look. The singer-songwriter earned the Best Original Song her song “Fight for You,” a collaboration with Dernst Emile II and Tiara Thomas.
Regina King wore a gorgeous Louis Vuitton gown. According to InStyle , she wore an asymmetrical gown with more than 3,000 sequins paired with more than $2,000,000 worth of diamonds from Forevermark.

Producer Charles D. King wore a full Frere look. King was nominated for producing best picture contender Judas and the Black Messiah.
Although, Halle Berry slayed her Dolce and Gabbana look, her bob haircut stole this year’s show! Back in 2020 Berry made history as the first Black woman to win Best Actress for her role in Monster’s Ball.
