ATLANTA MAYOR URGES PEOPLE TO STAY HOME DURING NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND

Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms begs people to stay home and avoid traveling to Atlanta for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game on March 7.

“Under normal circumstances, we would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to host the NBA All-Star game, but this is not a typical year,” Bottoms said in a statement. “I have shared my concerns related to public health and safety with the NBA and Atlanta Hawks. We are in agreement that this is a made-for-TV event only, and people should not travel to Atlanta to party. There will be no sanctioned events open to the public and we strongly encourage promoters, clubs, bars, etc. not to host events in the city related to this game.”

The All-Star Game was originally supposed to occur in Indianapolis, but it was moved to Atlanta due to scheduling conflicts with the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball tournament.

Lebron James voiced his concern on even having the All-Star game stating he had, “zero energy and zero excitement” for the tournament, adding “I don’t even understand why we’re having an All-Star Game, but it’s an agreement that the players association and the league came about”

It’s utterly ignorant for the NBA Players Association to determine they’re okay with putting the league’s 24 best players at risk by sending them to a COVID-19 hot spot to play an exhibition game, one that doesn’t count for anything. Nonetheless, All-Star starters will be revealed on Thursday evening, while All-Star reserves will be announced on February 23.
