INSIDE HARRIS’ HISTORIC FIRST DAYS AS VICE PRESIDENT

After the Inauguration, Kamala Harris got right to work during her historic first days as Vice President. On Thursday, both Biden and Harris began their first full days in the White House.

In the morning, Harris attended a virtual prayer service with her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. They were joined by Biden and his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

Harris spent most of her time working out of her office in the West Wing. Harris’ first full day at the White House Thursday, she sat in her office reading the letter left behind by Vice President Mike Pence. Details of the letter will remain private at the request of the administration. Fortunately, Pence and Harris have a more cordial relationship than Biden and Trump have.

Biden and Harris had their first lunch date on Friday in which Biden wrote on Facebook, “a new Administration means a new lunch partner.” It’s a tradition that Biden had as Obama’s right hand and wishes for that to continue with Harris as his.

Harris has been strategically visible at Biden’s side as he signed multiple executive orders and received private briefings on Covid-19. She sat alongside Biden in the Oval Office as they received the President’s Daily Brief, which was a frequent occurrence when Biden served with President Barack Obama.

“Even in dark times, we not only dream, we do. We not only see what has been, we see what can be,” she said. “This is American aspiration.”

“She’s focused on how her office can support and amplify the administration’s agenda,” said Symone Sanders, a senior adviser and top spokesperson for Harris.

Harris has put in work independently as well, including foreign and domestic outreach to allies. On Friday, she spoke at an SEIU executive board meeting, and the day before, she talked to the World Health Organization’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
